Disadvantages of Alternative Assessment

- Issue of fluidity in marking – development of rubrics which establish criteria and describe levels of performance will indicate to what extent a students’ work corresponds to the criteria (McFarland, 2001).

- Selecting or developing a combination of assessments for a comprehensive assessment system to assess all students. Failure will reveal even greater achievements gaps than standardized assessments (Winkings, 1997).

- Issue of equity- will be achieved if everyone involved in the educating children ensure fairness-strong support system (McFarland, 2001).
